According to the World Health Organization " Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or sickness". So let's ponder this statement for just a second. There is more to health that not simply being 'sick'? That's pretty powerful, don't you think? We go about our daily lives and when we feel sick that is when we say were are unhealthy!
Did you know that disease could be in your body right now, but you are unaware because you are not experiencing any symptoms? Too often we are so worried about eliminating the symptoms, thinking that is what is gonna to make us healthier but it is actually hiding the true reason for what ails us. For example research reveals that coronary heart disease is the largest killer of Americans. (Farmington Heart Study NHLBI) IN FACT, 57% of men who died suddenly from coronary hearth disease had NO previous symptoms of the disease. This it very important to remember. Your state of health is how the whole body is functioning on a daily basis. Thus, it is important to know how your body is functioning by having it checked, knowledge is power, you should know everything about your own body to make informed and wise decisions about improving your health! Your Health Matters!
Yours in health,
Dr. Dan

Dear Community of Santa Monica,
As a chiropractor I am frequently asked about the nature of my profession and where it fits into the healthcare spectrum. Over the next couple weeks I will attempt to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about chiropractic and that will help to clear up some of the common misconceptions. Are chiropractors back & neck pain specialist? We were tagged with the term of back and neck pain specialist long ago when the american medical association saw the benefits we had to ridding pain in low back and neck and basically the term stuck. In essence a lot of what we do focuses on the nervous system and thus pain is a part of the nervous. However pain or sensory fibers in the nervous system only make up about 1/9 of the total fibers in our body. Thus the sensory part of our nervous that relays the message back up to the brain is very small in compared to the motor or autonomic (regulatory stuff). Now back to the topic therefore by Chiropractors who work to correct the flow of neural fibers in the entire nervous system can in fact benefit by decreasing pain (remember small part). The key thing to note is that by performing our adjustments on strategic segments of the spinal column we can remove the blockade and restore all the aspects of nervous system not just one associated with pain. When something like that occurs for someone who has been lacking proper neural flow for years we see tremendous health benefits especially to the organs that are being regulated by the autonomic aspect of the nervous system. We feel it is important to remember and by no means are we deemed pain experts of any kind but in fact we simply attempt to restore to the nervous system to its most optimal functioning. Their are now great tools we can use to determine the location of nervous system interference through the use of surface electromyography that determines the amount of stress the body is under and the way it attempts to regulate itself. Our office has this state of the art technology and we are performing these computerized stress evaluations daily to determine your level functioning. Don't waste anytime and call today for your 1-1 evaluation with a Doctor of Chiropractic. Yours in health, Dr. Dan

Dear Community of Santa Monica
As we are in the midst of the most active time of the year, the summer in Santa Monica, we must be reminded of the importance of safety first. Your neighborhood chiropractor can provide you with the tools to having a fantastic summer. This means making sure we are planning ahead or developing a strong tool bag to be well prepared. First thing to remember in sunny California is before we go outside we must apply sunscreen if we are going to be in the sun for prolonged periods of time. Also water consumption is really important as the rule of thumb is to drink our body weight in fluid ounces. (ie if we weight 125 Ibs. then we should have 125 fl. oz of water which is approximately 6 standard size water bottles.) If you are going to be doing physical activity in the sun then make sure you consumed enough food as sunstroke often occurs when people are dehydrated/undernourished. Once we completed our small checklist prior to going outdoors it is important to know if you're physically ready for activity. This can be completed by having a short physical done by any doctor of chiropractic. Remember your bio-mechanical analysis along with a simple vital exam will determine if you're ready for some fun in the sun. Also your doctor of chiropractic can also determine the functioning level of your nervous with either a simple x-ray or the use of a surface electric myo-gram. This measures the activity level of muscles in your back and determines whether there is any sort of nervous system disturbance. This examination only takes minutes and can be done by any doctor of chiropractic. Remember to have fun and be safe when outdoors this summer and most all remember the importance of maintaining maximal health. Yours in health, Dr. Dan (Family Chiropractor in Santa Monica, CA)

Dear Community of Santa Monica
I want to start off with something philosophical or something hopefully we can all live by. The science, the art and the understanding of chiropractic provides a foundation for restoring the body's vitality but also the way in which we process our interaction with the world. Every time I am fortunate to enable someone's power/innate through a chiropractic adjustment you can just see the "light being turned on" in all facets of their well being. We as society take so much for granted especially our health and we are so trained to only look for signs of pain or discomfort rather than focusing on ways to improve our health even minimally day by day. We are usually one step away from some sort of crisis, especially this time of year when people are doing the things they love outdoors primarily. That is why someone who takes the time routinely to look to inward both mentally and physically will be better off in the long. Taking a preventative approach to health has been shown time and time again to keep people away from crisis. We here at Santa Monica Chiropractic Studio take pride in making everything available to you, from nutrition, exercise and adjustments that promote balance within as we reach our full potential as human beings. Doesn't that sound nice living our lives at a level we expect, as opposed to a level that just is. With summer officially beginning this week come by and get a complimentary health screening to see what your health potential can be and how we can take steps to close that health gap. All the best and a safe holidays! Dr. Dan
